Whew, it’s been a hell of an unplanned hiatus! It looks like the last blog post was in April, and while I had a follow up planned life got in the way. Well, life and myself. So around the end of April beginning of May I found out the rent in our apartment was about to jump $225. Basically I was going from paying $1575 for rent, parking, and storage to paying $1700. Which for some doesn’t sound too bad, but I haven’t received a substantial raise due to coming back to work early during the pandemic (which would have been nice) . The only utility that included was heat, which because the radiators needed to be serviced, had 2 settings: hot or off. Not to mention I still have student loans and other stuff. So needless to say, we had to move.
The house visiting experience was…interesting to say the least, from really nice condo/apartments, to a house that could have been Chicago’s Amityville house. Thanks to the help of a good friend that was/is also our go to for real estate stuff we found a home! A real home, but that too became complicated and started to get messy. So we had the stress from packing up all of our everything, potentially becoming homeless due to dates getting pushed back and forth, coming up with more money than I have ever had at one time, It was too much going on at one time and it almost broke us mentally. Luckily we have a great support system. My mom said worse case scenario, we could stay with them, and thanks to my sister My wife and I are now home owners. Many tears flowed, many sighs of relief, hugs all around, and we could finally put roots down and take a step up in adulthood, for us. Now we have a nice cozy home and the Mortgage is less than the lowest amount or rent at the old place.
Since then we have been working to make our house a home, and while that is an ongoing process that is part of what’s been hindering the blog and the other projects. The other part unfortunately has been me. I have allowed myself to get distracted or have purposely distracted myself as a way to manage my stress and as a scapegoat to my own laziness. The first step is admitting you have a problem though, or so I’ve heard. My problem is that I tend to procrastinate and make excuses as to why I don’t work on projects that are important to me. So I will work on that, or continue to work on that I should say.
So as far as projects coming soon, I am designing/co-designing a series of enamel pins, with uplifting messages, and some nerdy throwbacks. I am finalizing a Vegan Discord channel to help vegan travelers and build that community, and of course this blog. Later down the line I’d like to work on creating a podcast, and putting out a book, but those are on the back burner for now. I also need to make time to finish my gear to become an official member of the Mandalorian Mercs Costume Club. So kind of a lot going on, also I celebrated my 36th birthday recently and will be celebrating my 10th wedding anniversary soon as well!
Many great things to look forward to coming soon!
