What a time to be alive! It’s great, if you are a rich white male or politician. For the many of the rest of us it’s not great. Minorities (at least black and brown), still get treated as second class citizens, those living in poverty still don’t have enough resources to build them back up, women still have uninformed and unintelligent men regulating their bodies, good times indeed.
This is about a specific community of folks: the LGBTQ+ people and the many people that identify as LGBTQ+, so you know those Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/questioning, Pansexual, Asexual, Demisexual, Graysexual, Gender Nonconforming, Non-Binary, GenderQueer, Gender Fluid, Gender Neutral, Intersex, and + for those that in an undescribed category. Whew, I want to see an animaniacs song cover all of that and explain to kids that whatever you identify as is okay.
It’s pride month so all the businesses want to show support for the Lgbtq community, but just like any other history month, people should be an ally 24/7 365(6). Now you have some shit judges trying to undo everything that the community has done to claw at some form of equality. It is a sad and scary time to be anything but a cis, white, male. There are more dark days ahead and now more than ever we, “minorities” need to come together, to keep each other safe, to support one another, because our government does not care. The world is some huge game, but the people are the pawns, and a storm is coming. I am lucky to live in a state that is a bit more modern, but so many places are reverting to archaic times.
I don’t know what is in store, but I will do what I can to help, support, and bring forth positive change. If you are lucky enough to be in a position of power, use it! Protect the Lgbtq+ community, protect women’s rights, and invest in the people. This wasn’t how this blog was originally going to go, but if light of recent events, it’s where it’s needed. I love you, remember to love yourself, and we shall overcome…..someday.
